What is a GCSE in Product Design?
Product design revolves around the system life cycle. A problem has to be identified before a design can be formulated. Research is needed to find out exactly what the customers want. The most appropriate materials and tools must then be selected for production. Although many materials must be known about only non-resistant materials will be used here. Anyone wanting wood or metal work should look for a City College course. However, it does include smart materials which can be formed in to a shape which it then keeps.
Subject areas which will be covered over the two years are:

How will I be assessed?
60% Coursework
A number of coursework topics must be covered, the best of which is entered for assessment and attracts 60% of the total marks.
40% Written Paper
There are two written, design related, papers which total 2 ½ hours and makes up 40% of the marks.
