
Aims
The development and maintenance of cardio-vascular fitness, muscular strength and flexibility.
To understand the short and long-term effects of exercise on the various body systems. To understand the role of exercise in the development of the different components of fitness and the maintenance of an active life style.
To develop an aesthetic appreciation of physical movement.
To be able to analyse their own performance and that of others offering appropriate strategies to improve the performance.
To be able to refine and improve sequences of movements.
To gain an understanding of the general principles of game activities from a range of invasion games, racket games and striking fielding games.
Through their involvement in physical activities it is hoped pupils will develop personal and social qualities such as self-confidence, perseverance, responsibility, leadership, teamsmanship, sportsmanship and amicable co-operation with their peers.
Programme of Study
The above aims are realised through a programme of study delivered at Bellemoor School, and some off-site venues.
The activities include Gymnastics, Athletics, Cricket, Table Tennis, Tennis, a programme of Invasion Games and a comprehensive Health Related Exercise programme.
Homework
No homework is set in this subject but pupils with inclination are encouraged to participate in extra-curricular sporting activities.
