School Concert
Congratulations to all our very talented students who took part in the end of term concert. There was a really eclectic mix of classical instrumental pieces, selections from Oliver, and different types of rock. We were even treated to a cello and harpsichord duet from Ms Peters and Mr Roberts. The standard was really high, with stage and sound being organised by Russell Hack and Josh Shears, and Matthew Rawlins keeping order as Front of House Man. Well done to everyone.

Year 10 – Work Experience
Students returned to school this week following two weeks’ work experience. The vast majority of students found the insight into the ‘world of work’ to be quite an eye opener but they will all find the knowledge they have gained useful when making post 16/career decisions. We received numerous positive comments from employers – “Would like to keep him, he’s wonderful, “I wish they were all as good as him, “Absolutely fantastic, really nice guy, “If we had a position for an apprentice, we’d sign him up tomorrow, “A joy, we want to keep him; we’ve offered him summer work. Congratulations to all our students for an outstanding set of reports.

Awards Evening - Attendance Plea
We have a large number of boys receiving awards this year and therefore we must keep strictly to a maximum of 2 guests please for each prizewinner otherwise we will not be able to accommodate everybody.   Next year we will address this issue by having two separate celebrations for KS3 and KS4.

Auction of DVDs, CDs and Computer Games
“On the 2nd of July 2008, 7a1 boys held an auction to help children in Uganda .We asked for people from USH and other schools to donate games, DVD’s and unused consoles. We collected 83 items in total, 82 movies and games and a Playstation 1. We raised a total of £94.98 and after paying off what we owed we had £89.48. Only a few games weren’t sold but everyone left with something whether it was from the auction, the ‘naughty’ tuck shop or the raffle. Overall it was a great day and the kids in Uganda will surely benefit from the money we raised. Rohit Ghai said, “I personally thought the auction was a big hit; it could have gone better but in the end we raised a whopping £91. Chris Pothecary said, “The auction was very good. With very short notice and not much help it went very well, and the children in Uganda will be very pleased. I don’t know how we managed to raise so much money!
After the auction a raffle was held with 3 prizes: 1st prize went to Chris Pothecary, 2nd to Jordan Horn and 3rd prize to Ruben Sousa.
Reported by Matthew Buckland, 7A1
Congratulations to the students who arranged the event themselves.

Year 8 World of Maths
The World of Maths is a unique travelling show that provides fun, colourful, hands-on mathematical problem solving activities and they worked with our Year 8 students last Tuesday. The boys did wonderfully well and the World of Maths visitors said that we were the best school they worked with so far this year. Well done Year 8!

Year 9 Trip to Kew Gardens
“During cross curricular week I went to London’s Kew Gardens on an educational reward trip. Whilst there we did many activities. Before lunch we learnt how to measure the age and height of a tree and had a wander around the gardens, and then later we explored the two biggest glasshouses where we saw many rare plants, including a peculiar looking banana tree and the world’s tallest indoor growing plant (which was huge!). Finally we went to see the Japanese Tower, which is visible from miles away, and the gift shop. We all had a great time and hope to go on more trips like this.
