Catch Up
The Catch Up programme is a new scheme adopted by Bellemoor to boost the reading of those pupils who find it difficult or boring. It is a one-to-one intervention of 20 minutes twice a week that helps the struggling or reluctant reader and assists with the development of spelling also.
We have been offering Catch Up for 5 months now and find that the boys respond well to the challenge of moving up through the scheme. They have made great strides in word recognition and reading fluency. It has been pleasing to hear that this programme has provided, these before shy readers, with the confidence to read out loud in the class, a difference which has been recognised by their class teachers.
As a department will feel the Catch –Up programme is a success which benefits the pupils reading and their ability to access the curriculum.
