MOPA theatre company came to Bellemoor to give us an ‘interactive’ production of ‘Richard III’. In this case, the word interactive means that students were used to play important characters.
First of all, students were selected to form the cast of the play. It lasted only about thirty minutes and was largely improvised using our own knowledge – so it wasn’t a surprise that we were directed by the four lively and energetic staff of the company. Apart from this, it was pretty good, and I was fortunate enough to play the role of the Lord Mayor of London!
Next, we did another mini play in acting the imagery of the scene when Hastings was executed. I was again lucky to be picked to act, and along with Joe Walsh, I acted the slaughtering of a pig as described by Hastings.
Along with many discussions about Richard’s character, the production was a great experience and a helping hand in preparation for the SAT’s. I think it will be a huge benefit for them. I enjoyed the whole event, and I hope Bellemoor will be able to get more opportunities like this one for pupils to participate in.
